Ingredients
- 1 pint chocolate gelato or ice cream
- 1 pint vanilla gelato or ice cream
- 1/2 cup finely chopped dark chocolate
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder, for rolling
- 1/4 cup finely chopped hazelnuts or almonds (optional, for garnish)
- Fresh mint leaves (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Scoop out 4-5 large balls from the chocolate gelato and place them on the prepared sheet. Freeze until firm, about 1 hour.
- Scoop a small portion of the vanilla gelato and flatten it slightly in your hand. Place the chocolate gelato ball in the center and wrap the vanilla gelato around it, forming a larger ball. Smooth out any seams.
- Freeze the formed gelato balls until solid, around 2 hours.
- Melt the dark chocolate over a double boiler, stirring until smooth. Allow it to cool slightly.
- Roll each tartufo ball in the melted chocolate, coating it entirely, and immediately roll in cocoa powder until evenly coated.
- Return the tartufo balls to the freezer until the chocolate sets, about 30 minutes.
- Serve cold, garnished with chopped hazelnuts, almonds, or fresh mint leaves if desired.
- Prep Time: 20 minutes
