  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup wheat germ
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips (optional)
  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries or raisins (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mix oats, brown sugar, melted butter, wheat germ, honey, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
  3. Press mixture evenly into the prepared pan. If desired, sprinkle chocolate chips and dried fruit over the top and press slightly to embed.
  4. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until edges are golden brown.
  5. Let cool completely in the pan, then cut into bars for serving.
