Description

alloween Bloody Cupcakes are the perfect treat for a spooky gathering. Each cupcake offers a sinister twist on the classic red velvet, featuring deep red color, a subtle cocoa flavor, and a gory strawberry jam filling that’s both delicious and delightfully eerie. Ideal for Halloween parties or a thrilling dessert surprise, these cupcakes bring the fun and fright of Halloween right to the dessert table. Top them with a smooth cream cheese frosting and drizzle with extra jam or edible “blood” to complete the look. These treats will be an instant hit with kids and adults alike, delivering just the right amount of scare with each bite.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Red food coloring, as needed
  • 1/2 cup strawberry or raspberry jam (for filling)
  • 1 batch cream cheese frosting (or frosting of choice)
  • Edible fake blood or additional jam for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy, then add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Add the buttermilk, vanilla extract, and red food coloring to the butter mixture. Mix until smooth and evenly colored.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  6. Spoon the batter into the cupcake liners, filling each about 2/3 full. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Allow cupcakes to cool completely. Once cooled, cut a small hole in the center of each cupcake and fill with a spoonful of strawberry or raspberry jam for the “bloody” effect.
  8. Frost each cupcake with cream cheese frosting and add edible fake blood or extra jam on top for a gory Halloween touch.
